This gripping vampire read, written in 1872 by the Irishman Sheridan Le Fanu introduced many of the 'traditional' ingredients of vampire fiction, such as the beautiful young lady in the castle in Styria and names such as the Countess Karnstein. The gradually increasing sense of brooding menace is masterly. Well worth a read!

This is an erotic (though not pornagraphic) horror tale. Far, far ahead of its time. Worth the (short) read.
