Friel wrote a very popular series of short stories for Adventure Magazine featuring Lourenzo and Pedro, two Brazilian rubber farm workers who spend their off-time exploring the rainforest. In this one their taken prisoner by a tribe that has promised to cure them, but in this case the Medicine Man--the Barrigudo (A monkey)--might just be worse than the fever.
