About This Book
Published in 1948, Night Squad is a noir crime novel by David Goodis (1917–1967), the Philadelphia-born writer whose bleak, lyrical paperback originals made him a cult figure in American crime fiction. His novels explore the lives of losers, drifters, and broken men on the margins of society — people trying and failing to escape their pasts. Goodis's work was admired in France, where François Truffaut adapted his novel Down There as the film Shoot the Piano Player (1960).
