Published in 1946, Oh, Murderer Mine is a hardboiled comic mystery novel by Norbert Davis (1909–1949), featuring the unlikely detective duo of Doan — a short, chubby, deceptively clever private investigator — and Carstairs, his enormous and imperious Great Dane, who is unquestionably the senior partner in their relationship. Doan is hired to guard a man known as Handsome Lover Boy, the kept companion of a cosmetics mogul, in a case that leads through a cast of robbers, eccentrics, and murderers at a school campus.

Davis distinguished himself in the crowded field of 1940s crime fiction by mixing genuine hardboiled plotting with slapstick humor. The Doan and Carstairs series, of which this is the third entry, are cherished by pulp fans for their knockabout comedy and the inspired absurdity of a rumpled gumshoe taking orders from a dog.
