David Glasgow Farragut was the Union Admiral whose leadership was instrumental in the capture of New Orleans, the lower Mississippi River, and Mobile Bay during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Author Alfred Thayer Mahan USN (1840-1914) was a geostrategist, and educator, who has been called "the most important American strategist of the nineteenth century."
