I’m about to email someone with this prediction, but I’m putting it out there: Amazon hits its sales targets, but got killed on shipping price hikes ($3.50 gas an all), and the outlook is sorta bleak.
Personal theory: A big part of Mr. Bezos’ pro-Kindle letter, and the whole POD/Booksurge thing, is based on ‘splaining. To back me up, I do know both UPS ‘n Fedex, the folks who ship for Amazon, are hurting. Also, managers ‘n staff are way too nice to us of late at Friday-night restaurants in my largely recession-proof abode. And ya just get that vibe.
