Amazon Gets Into Printed Book Distribution!

$20 says this has just a little bit to do with a company in New Jersey.  OK, that, and some of Amazon’s big “we’ll print your Academic Library Backlist, Springer” deals.

Wow!  If my business was distributing non-compatible with Kindle + Ipod ebooks and audiobooks to libraries, I’d be a little scared right now.

This is from a title I just set-up with CreateSpace regular (as opposed to CreateSpace Enterprise, where I also have titles… follow along, there will be a quiz later).  I’ve been catching up on print lately, and the following message… was not there yesterday.

Expanded Distribution Channel Sales

Boost your sales opportunities. Expanded Distribution offers the potential to distribute your book to more of your customers through thousands of outlets in the U.S. Pro Plan is required for this Channel.

There’s more about it here. It’s really very interesting.  And, if you look at the below message:

Unlike the Amazon.com Channel, books sold through the Expanded Distribution Channel may be manufactured by third parties. There may be some minor differences in manufacturing (e.g. paper thickness, color shade, etc.) between the EDC and other Channels. Learn more about designing your cover for the best possible printing results.

Could be that books sold through CreateSpace will also be sold through LSI.  But, my money’s on Jersey.  And, of course, the Espresso Machine has a few devices in The Wolverine State… where Amazon signed that deal with UMI.

/Historically, ’tis slow in smut ’til the 26th, so I’ll be printing titles all month, cool covers from Goodloe and other.  I’ve still got about 150 free pro setups left with CreateSpace Regular, so I will be following this one closely (including pricing and other fun things).

//One suspects there will be announcements affecting CreateSpace Enterprise as well, but those… I probably can’t tell you about.

///How lame is this: they’re just now covering the CSpace Enterprise takeover of Booksurge?  Dat was like, October, baby.
