I Didn’t Know They Were in Their ’40s!
Neat piece by Cal Reid on the Fictionwise brothers. Of course, the vague promise of $50 mil. in “increased IT spending” by BN chair Steve Riggio following their lousy quarter inspires about the same level of confidence as a Treasury … Continue reading

Apple Talks Ebooks
One thing to take away from the speculation about “ebook developers building in a store.” Apple likes things that extend the App Store (Classics, ScrollMotion.) Apple maybe isn’t as hot about things that don’t extend the App Store (Ereader, Kindle, … Continue reading

Delay, Evade and Lie Badly! That’s the Key to Technology Success
BooksonBoard is no longer letting you know just how many .epub/Adobe Mobile titles are available. It was 5,100 a couple days ago. You can still discover that there are 80,000 .lits, maybe. And presumably other formats as well. But search … Continue reading
An Open Letter to Tech Journalists
‘Cuz mobi’s uploading slow, and I don’t have time to post this everywhere: To Sir/Madam: I understand that ebooks aren’t your regular niche. However, when doing articles about publishing, it’s a good idea to talk to, you know, actual publishers. … Continue reading

Somebody Tell FictionEreaderWiseMind, Opening Up Your API Leads to a Dramatic Increase in Content For Your Format
OK, Disks one-four are now uploaded, with fully justified text and the new Munsey cover on adobe mobile and .lrfs. I like the new Munsey gal, though fully apart from her shocking for 1897 deshabille, she does remind me of … Continue reading

.Ereader 1.1 for Iphone Release… not in top 100 free apps
After two days of looking, I note that neither Stanza nor Ereader is any longer in the top 100 free downloads of Apple’s app store. There’s a new Ereader release which answers some of the questions, and, yes, there is … Continue reading

Sometimes Ya Can’t Give It Away
So I’m moving all the music from a dead PC, and I note the iTunes App Store is now listing the most popular downloads–both free and commercial. My other question, namely why Fictionwise would do PR on the Ereader Iphone … Continue reading

Another Slow Week
On the road again in a bit. Looks like the Ereader store is up and working fine now… we’ll see if maybe Mobi’s in the Itunes App store by week’s end.
Still busy
Noticing the Ereader to Iphone thing, I’ll mention in passing that HTML2PML sorta works for English-language books, and in conjunction with Makebook could produce results, but for foreign languages, err: FIXME(Egrave) FIXME(aacute) FIXME(euml) (more steps are needed…)
Ereader’s Free From Fictionwise
via Palminfocenter. Ereader/Palm/PeantReader/whatever used to cost money. All they need to do now is give away the tools to create books in Ereader. And build/support free libraries of books in Ereader format. And go back in time four years, or … Continue reading
