About This Book
Published in 1918, Cabin Fever is a Western novel by B. M. Bower (Bertha Muzzy Sinclair, 1871–1940). The protagonist, Bud Moore, is an ex-cowboy turned automobile stage driver in California who walks out on his marriage after a bitter quarrel and heads for the mountains, where gold fever and isolation test his character. Bower explores themes of loneliness, stubbornness, and the pull between domestic life and the lure of wild country. It is one of her more psychologically grounded novels, departing from the lighter ranch comedies of the Flying U series. Cabin Fever is in the public domain.
