Written around 449-450 AD by Theodoret, Bishop of Cyrrhus in Syria (c. 393-c. 458), the Ecclesiastical History continues the chronicle begun by Eusebius of Caesarea, covering the period from the rise of Arianism to 429 AD. The narrative preserves numerous documents — imperial letters, conciliar decrees, and theological correspondence — that survive nowhere else, making it an irreplaceable source for fourth and fifth century ecclesiastical politics.
