Published in 1921, The Long, Long Trail is a Western novel by Frederick Faust (1892–1944), better known by his most famous pseudonym, Max Brand. Faust was one of the most prolific authors in American popular fiction, publishing hundreds of novels and stories under at least twenty pen names. His Western novels — featuring archetypal heroes, fast action, and mythic landscapes — helped define the genre for decades. Faust was killed in 1944 as a war correspondent during the Allied advance in Italy.
